Joana Pinheiro has a PhD in Architectural Design with the doctoral thesis “The Wall as architectural reference”. The thesis proposes the Wall as an element with the conceptual identity that makes it able to direct the architectural form, serving as a design instrument in the synthesis of different variables of the project for the actions of articulation, emplacement, referencing and conformation in space.

Joana joined NSW in 2013 and is currently responsible for the rehabilitation project of Orkla Atrium office building. Before that, she was the project leader for the Mattilsynet -Veterinaer Grensekontrollstasjon new building at the Oslo airport. She has also been part of a big scale development project in Franzefoss, Sandvika and the rehabilitation of a faculty building in NTNU Trondheim, among other works.

She has architectural work experience since 2001 within Spain, Portugal and Brazil, assuming various roles and responsibilities in collaboration with different offices, among them Paulo Mendes da Rocha, São Paulo.

Additionally, she has developed several projects on authorship in Portugal and Spain, in a scope that goes from dwellings to landscape design of public green parks, to private and public clients.
