Rica Airport Hotel, Sola
About
The project resulted from winning first prize in an architecture competition arranged by Avinor. The hotel is located within walking distance of the airport terminal and consists of 186 rooms located around an open atrium linking the five floors. The ground and the first floors contain the lobby, a bar, a conference centre and restaurant. On the second floor the restaurant opens on to an outdoor area linked to a park landscape that has been established through the use of a grass-covered area sloping towards the terminal building.

The hotel’s façades are constructed with horizontal bands of salt-water proof aluminium, marking each storey. Perforated aluminium sheets are mounted between these bands at a distance from the actual façade. Windows are organized in a pattern that varies from room to room, and in some storeys the façade is partly cantilevered allowing larger rooms to be fitted in.
