About

After many years with a shared campus – Dragvoll and Gløshaugen – NTNU will gather in and near Gløshaugen. New buildings are coming, including a common building for health and social sciences, strategically located at the corner of Trondheim's busiest access road and the main Campus entry.

NTNU has great ambitions for the solution:

The project will be full of life and activities around the clock, acting as a motivator and inspiration for a modern campus development – with focus on health and sports

The activities inside the building must be made visible in the façades. The building must be transparent and open – inclusive for everyone

The building will display new attitudes to energy and environmental conditions

Our answers to this:

A rounded shape that optimises the façades and the outdoor area.

Offers and attractions start on the ground floor exterior spaces, with varied activities related to the entrances and the site situation, and with diverse activities on the roof

Where the sun exposure is the least (to the north and east), the building will be opened up as much as possible

Light shafts make optimal use of daylight, with daylight amplifiers on the roof and ventilation through the light shafts.

The energy concept is robust and based on sound and proven technology. After the investment costs, the operation of the building is free.

The concept also stimulates year-round cycling. People who come cycling or rolling will "roll" straight in via the bicycle ramp down to the lower level.

From the outside, the project is perceived as a transparent and luminous "kinderegg". All plans have a recognisable main organization, with the transverse axis as the clear common zone on all plans. The entrance level is the interface between sports and health, with access and contact with the multi-purpose hall. The building is planned for an easy reallocation of areas, integrating new spaces and other functions without affecting other activities in the building.

The attractive top floor offers great sun conditions and views of Øya, Midtbyen and Høyskoleparken. Here you will easily find meeting rooms with direct contact to the outdoor area on the roof. The roof level provides an outward-facing and active building for health and sports.

The roof offers physical and social opportunities, reading areas, areas with games, and an exercise and walking path. The exercise trail winds between greenery and active spaces providing a panoramic experience of the surroundings. The rest of the roof surface is optimised with solar panels.
